Who is GuocoLand Malaysia? The company behind the projects
GuocoLand (Malaysia) was incorporated on 5 May 1920 as Bedford Plantations, Limited. It became Bedford Berhad in 1984 and Hong Leong Properties Berhad in 1993, and took the name GuocoLand (Malaysia) Berhad on 28 October 2004 [2]. It is the property arm of the Hong Leong Group and a subsidiary of Singapore-listed GuocoLand Limited [1][2]. In February 2026, GuocoLand Limited's wholly-owned GLL (Malaysia) Pte Ltd, which held about 65.03% of the shares, proposed taking it private through a selective capital reduction paying RM1.10 a share [4]. Bursa Malaysia removed the company from its Official List on 18 August 2026 [3][5]; it now operates as GuocoLand (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd [6].
Its flagship is Damansara City in Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur: two office towers, the DC Residensi serviced apartments, the Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara hotel and DC Mall [1]. The company calls itself the master developer of the Emerald series — Emerald Rawang, Emerald Hills in Alam Damai, Emerald 9 in Cheras and Emerald Sepang [1]. It says its remaining land bank was about 5,145 acres at 30 June 2025: 1,768 acres in Jasin, Melaka, 3,024 acres in Sepang and 353 acres in Rawang; the Sepang and Rawang land is held by its associate and joint-venture companies [1].
